1,008 newly built PMAY homes to be handed over to beneficiaries of Hubballi-Dharwad in May

Hubballi: Karnataka Slum Development Commission will hand over 1,008 new homes to Hubballi-Dharwad beneficiaries in the first week of May, as part of a larger plan to build 1,300 homes under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Speaking in the media after inspecting the housing scene in Mantur Road, Hosayerapur village, the minister said it was part of the government’s commitment to provide dignified housing for the poor.
“This year alone, 42,345 homes will be handed over to beneficiaries, and last year it will be handed over to 36,789 homes,” he said.
Under PMAY, a total of 1,80,253 houses were approved for Karnataka through the Slum Development Commission. The price per unit is about Rs 7.5 lakh. Of these, the centre contributes Rs 1.5 lakh per home, while the state provides Rs 1.2 lakh for general beneficiaries and Rs 2 lakh for SC/ST beneficiaries. However, Rs 3.1 billion have been released so far due to delays in fund issuance – construction has been hampered.
He noted that more than 48,000 houses had been approved under the rule of Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana during the last Congress government, with a proposed fund of Rs 2.1 crore, although only Rs 10.9 crore was released at the time.
Khan recalled an earlier initiative, noting that in 2016 the Chief Minister announced a plan to build 100,000 homes in Bangalore for street vendors and car drivers. Of these, 47,000 homes were tendered on 1,023 acres of land allocated under Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana. The construction costs of these houses are Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000, and Rs 1.5 lakh each in the centre and state. The beneficiary can use a bank loan to pay the balance.
Khan said the houses built in the second phase of the current plan will be opened by the chief minister through a video conference in the presence of local lawmakers and ministers.
