11 fishermen from Tamil Nadu held; a trawler seized by the Sri Lankan Navy

In a new incident, 11 fishermen from Ramswalam, Panban and Tangjimadam in Ramana Sapuran District were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on charges of poaching on Thursday (March 27, 2025).
According to Naval Police sources, fishers were fishing in the Park Bay area, and in the early hours of the morning, the Sri Lankan Navy’s surveillance team detained 11 fishermen and seized the trawler.
Fisheries Ministry officials said they issued 454 tokens from Ramswaran Pier on Wednesday (March 26, 2025) and fishermen are scheduled to return on Thursday (March 27, 2025).
Speech HinduFisherman Leader Jesus Raja said they have been calling on the coalition government to arrange talks with fishermen leaders in the northern province of Sri Lanka and island officials.
The arrested fishermen and the detained trawlers should be released immediately, in good condition, lying in the Sri Lankan port.
According to statements by the association’s leaders, the Tamil Nadu government has arranged to travel to Sri Lanka to meet with prison fishermen. Sources said they may return on April 1.
