14 people arrested after clashes between two communities in Pudukottai

On Monday (5 May 2025) evening, in the ongoing Muthumariamman Temple Festival, the youth belonging to the most backward class (MBC) and the scheduled caste (SC) community were clashed on Monday (5 May 2025) in the village of Vadakadu near Alangudi in Pudukkottai area.

The confrontation reportedly began a dispute over the gasoline pump, escalating as members of the two communities once again face each other in nearby residential areas. The dispute caused multiple injuries on both sides.

During the incident, a cabin allegedly belonging to the Dalit family and a two-wheeler were misunderstood to catch fire. Since then, videos about Burning the Hut have spread on social media.

Alangudi police arrested 14 people related to violence. The injured person has been taken to Alangudi government hospital for treatment.

Pudukkottai Police Department Abhishek Gupta and Tamil Nadu Law Minister S. Regupathy visited the site on the evening of May 5 (May 5) and then brought the situation under control. Police officers have since been deployed in Vadakadu to prevent further tensions.

In a press release, Pudukkottai police said Tuesday (May 6, 2025) that the conflict began a verbal dispute at a gas station between drunken youths in two communities. During the confrontation, a cabin was set up for first aid and the government bus window was damaged. An investigation is underway.

Police allegedly misinformation is spreading information about the incident on social media and warns of legal action in response to the incidents involved.
