152 million people download the AP “Shakthi” app for protecting women: DGP

Vijayawada: Police Director General Harish Kumar Gupta said that as many as 152 million people are aiming to provide protection to women, and aiming to provide protection to women on mobile phones in the AP.
DGP said in a statement released here that the app is in significant modern features and can be available in English and Hindi languages. He added that 11.6 million people urged SOS to seek emergency help, with 34,192 phone calls being registered for immediate response, while 3,193 FIR registrations. He further said that through the app, they received 242 requests for family consultation, 160 safe trips and 18 missing children.
DGP said that under the supervision of IG-level officials, they formed 164 Shakthi teams to protect women in the state and identified 900 hot spots and began to pay close attention to them. He explained that they also raised awareness on the needs and use of Shakthi apps in train stations, bus booths, public places. He said they also held an advocacy program on the Shakthi team in rural areas to benefit women, while 254 men involved in eve teasing were identified.
The DGP insists that the police department is a top priority in protecting women and girls, and he said they have set up the Women and Children Safety Department, led by IG Raja Kumari, at the state level. He noted that 169 people were convicted in various courts on murder, rape and gang rape charges, as well as protecting Chidren from the 2012 Secual Intress Act regulations in the last 10 months of the AP.
