17-year-old boy was murdered during temple festival in Kulithalai, Karuel

A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death by an argument during a temple festival in the Karur district of Karur district on Sunday evening (May 4, 2025).
The deceased R. Shyam Sundar of Kulithalai is a 12th grade student at a government high school. Shyam's friends J. Damodaran and 25-year-old R. Vasanth (23-year-old R. Vasanth), were injured, who were also attacked by defendant B. Nagendran, 22-year-old.
Police said the festival was held at the Sri Mariyamman Temple in Kulithalai. As part of the celebration, devotees occupied the “Poothattu” parade as a dedication of the goddess. The parade moved from Kollampattarai Street to Mariyamman Temple from Sunday night.
While the parade was in progress, Nagendran and 21-year-old Logueswaran (K. police sources said Shyam and his friends Damodharan and Vasanth questioned the duo, leading to a quarrel between the two groups.
The verbal duel got worse, and Shyam and two of his friends allegedly attacked Nagendran with their knives. Shyam, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital and the doctor declared him dead. His body was taken to the Karu Government Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Damodaran was injured in his left ear and shoulder and was initially taken to the government hospital in Kulithalai, but was then referred to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi. Vasanth suffered a injury to his right shoulder and was treated at the government hospital in Kulithalai.
Police inspected the crime scene and questioned. Sources said four people involved in the murder have been detained.
