2-Day Organic Mango Mela Starts with Vizag

Visakapatnam: The “Go Adarita Prakriti Adarita Rythu” association organized a two-day organic mango Mela in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. The event attracts farmers and locals to celebrate and promote organic and traditional mango cultivation practices.
Visitors explore a wide variety of indigenous mango varieties in Mela, rarely found in the standard Rythu Bazar. Featured varieties include Panchdara Kalishalu, Panduri Mamidi, Kothapalli Kobbari, Swatgam, Amritham, Paparaju Goa, Nagulapalli Irasalu, Haider Saibu, Jahangir, Peddarasalu, Chinnarasalu, Banginapalli, Suvarna Adhinam, Kobbari Mamidi, Dondakaya and Imam Pasand. The event highlights the rich biodiversity of local mango types, while emphasizing respect for natural and organic agricultural methods that are traditionally grown.
Local buyer M. Sumalatha expressed satisfaction when speaking to Deccan Chronicle with finding the mango variety that is not usually available in the Standard Market or Rythu Bazars. “It was a pleasant experience to explore such a unique variety of experiences,” she said, highlighting her satisfaction with her purchase. Similarly, another buyer, S. Chitti Babu, noted that with his grandchildren returning over the summer, he seized opportunities in almost all kinds of varieties, emphasizing the expo’s appeal to families and traditional consumers.
Organizers reported that they asked all participating farmers to arrive on Saturday night. However, with some not yet included, more mango varieties are expected to be launched on Sunday, and promises that, as Mela ends, there will be more diversity.
