2 deaths in KEM hospitals have nothing to do with Covid-19, no panic required: BMC

On Monday, Civic-Run Kem Hospital, where two patients died at Mumbai’s medical facility were clarified that the deaths at Mumbai’s medical facility were caused by comorbidities and Covid-19 because people were advised not to panic. The deaths of two COVID-19 patients, a 14-year-old girl and a 54-year-old woman, have been reported at the Edward Memorial (KEM) hospital in Parel, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a statement.

However, hospital authorities have clarified that the deaths were not attributed to No. 19, but serious diseases such as nephrotic syndrome and cancerous epilepsy seizures and cancer. Therefore, people don’t need to panic, civic groups say.

The BMC further noted that Covid-19 is now considered endemic and persistent health problems, with few infections found, and occasionally so.
The two patients who died in the hospital were from Sindhudurg district and Dombivli in the Tana area and were not residents of Mumbai, the statement said. It said that the number of COVID-19 patients in Singapore, Hong Kong, East Asia and some other countries is increasing over the past few days.

“BMC’s health department has been monitoring the spread of Covid-19. From January 2025 to April 2025, the number of Covid-19 patients was found to be very low. But some cases have been Covid-19 since early May. However, BMC administrators do not attract BMC administration in this regard.”


Meanwhile, the BMC said that treatment for 199 patients has been arranged, such as special beds and rooms are provided specifically for them at the Mumbai Municipal Hospital. The statement added that this capability will be improved immediately if necessary.
