2024 protest: Delhi court relieves TMC leader of personal appearance

The Delhi court granted the same-day personal appearance waiver on Wednesday (30 April 2025), exempting TMC leaders Derek O’Brien, Sagarika Ghose, Saket Gokhle and other party staff, which was linked to protests before the Indian Council, despite the protests held in front of the Indian Council last April.

Other chief judicial magistrates Neha Mittal has relieved eight leaders including Santanu Sen, Dola Sen, Nadimul Haque, Arpita Ghosh, Arpita Ghosh, Abir Ranjan Bishwas and Sudip Raha of TMC.

The judge directed them to appear on the next hearing date.

Meanwhile, Judge Mittal pointed out that TMC leader Vivek Gupta’s presence and directed him to appear on the next hearing date to sign the bail margin.

She also sent a new subpoena to TMC leader Santanu Sen, noting that the summons sent to him earlier were “returned to no segments”.

On April 21, the judge summoned 10 defendants in the case.

According to Delhi police, on April 8 last year, outside the gates of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the TMC leaders were accused of protesting with placards and banners without the necessary permission, despite the fact that Article 144 (Prohibited Collection) Criminal Procedure Code already existed.

Police said they continued to protest despite being told the ban order and subsequently registered for the FIR.

TMC leaders are protesting the central investigative body CBI, NIA, ED and income tax departments and demanding changes to their chiefs.

A 10-person TMC delegation announced protests after encountering the full bench of ECI to force their needs.

The party said the central investigative body aimed at the center of BJP-led demands.
