2025 Canadian election: Ford extends olive branch; Ontario Prime Minister seeks solidarity despite criticism from Conservative MPs

Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford chose a path to reconciliation the morning after the federal election. Despite the condemnation from newly elected Conservative MPs, Ford demonstrated his desire for unity, prioritizing the challenges facing the country over political quarrels. “All Canadians have to unite, and that’s the economic damage caused by Trump’s tariffs,” Ford said.
Bowmanville – Jamil Jivani, the newly elected MP in the north of Shawa, publicly criticized Ford for his involvement in the federal campaign, calling him a “problem” and an opportunist.
It was after Ford’s campaign manager Kory Tenycke and Ford himself publicly criticized Pierre Poilievre’s campaign strategy, especially about the U.S. tariff threat.

“Sometimes the truth hurts,” Ford said during the campaign.

But after the victory of liberalism, Ford chose a more diplomatic approach. He expressed his willingness to work with Mark Carney’s liberals, highlighting the “critical” moments in Ontario and Canada. “I look forward to working with the winners,” Ford declared. “The focus of Ford shifted to urgent provincial and national concerns. He called on the new Liberal government to fulfill its commitment to demolishing internal trade barriers and accelerating resource development projects, especially in the mineral-rich fire ring.

He also stressed the importance of infrastructure development, including pipelines, highways and rail lines, to facilitate the transportation of Canadian goods and reduce dependence on the United States.

Ford’s decision to prioritize unification and cooperation over political retribution highlights the complex dynamics of Canadian politics.

Although internal party tensions have gradually diminished, the Prime Minister’s emphasis on responding to common challenges emphasizes the need to face external economic threats.
