The fires are the latest setback in a series of explosions that threaten actions to undermine Africa’s largest oil producer. President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday launched a state of emergency in the region that briefly stopped a critical action after several attacks on oil pipelines. The elected officials, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy NGOZI ODU, and local lawmakers, are currently suspended with a retired military officer serving as the sole executive.
The Soku gas facility is crucial to supply gas feedstocks for LNG plants in the Rivers State Bonny area. Until recently, it was operated by Shell Plc, which sold some of the onshore assets in the region to Renaissance African Energy.
The Renaissance request directed comments to Nigeria LNG, which was published by Shell, the Nigerian government and other oil-specialized LNG companies. NLNG did not respond to a request for comment.
