3 Common Vitamin Supplements That Can Be Destroy Your Health, Experts Reveal Unexpected Risks

We all want to stay healthy, and taking vitamin supplements seems to be an easy way to fill the gap in diet. But it’s surprising, not all supplements are as safe or useful as they look. In fact, some of the most common people may silently hurt your intestines and make you feel worse over time.

According to TOI, Dr. Janine Bowring, a naturopathic physician, noted that we should be careful with three supplements and share better options.

Many of the vitamins sold in the store are synthetic. If the ingredients list includes things like vitamin A as ethylene glycol or vitamin B6 as hydrochloride as pyridine chloride, that’s a warning sign. These are artificial versions, not the kind your body naturally gets from food.

What you can do:
Choose a multivitamin made from a real food source. These food-based whole choices are easier and more natural in the gut. Even better, get nutrition from foods like green leaves, fruits, seeds and nuts, because nature knows best!

2. Vitamin B12 (cyanalin)

Vitamin B12 is very important for your energy and nerve health. But there is a catch. If your B12 supplement says cyanocyanamine, it is a synthetic version that contains a small amount of cyanide.

TOI reports that while the dosage is small, taking it regularly can affect how your body removes toxins. It may also irritate your gut and liver, especially if you have already experienced health problems with IBS or low stomach acid. Worse, your body may not absorb it correctly, which can get worse over time.

Better options:
Look for methyl tomato protein or hydroxycobblemine protein, which are the natural forms that are easier for your body to use. Also, try eating more B12-rich foods such as eggs, dairy products and fish. Fermented foods like curds are also great, they support gut health and help your body absorb B12 better.

3. Magnesium Stearate

Magnesium stearate is not a vitamin, but is a common additive in many pills. It helps the tablet move smoothly during the manufacturing process. Sounds harmless, right? But TOI points out that this ingredient may actually be a silencer.

Some studies have shown that magnesium stearate can form a coating in the intestine, preventing nutrients from being properly absorbed. Over time, it may also reduce the power of probiotics and damage natural disorders to the gut.

But what to look for:
No chemicals need to be added, such as magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide or artificial pigments. Looking for someone with a “clean label” or “additive-free” package. Once again, getting nutrition directly from food is the healthiest option.
