348 seat decision undisputed in Assam Panchayat poll

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on Friday that a total of 348 seats in Assam’s Panchayat system were won with the BJP-led NDA. The voting plan for the three-layer Panchayat system is held in two phases on May 2 and May 7.

Sarma said April 18 is the last date for the withdrawal of Panchayat’s election nomination.

He claimed in his post on X: “Based on reports received so far, NDA has obtained seats in 37 Zila Parishad (35 bjp and 2 AGP) and 288 Anchalik Panchayat (259 BJP and 29 AGP).
According to the chart he shared, the independents have won 15 undisputed Anchalik Parishad seats, Congress 9 and AIUDF seats.

“This is a huge and unprecedented mission in the political history of Assam. It reflects the huge trust and overwhelming love of the Assam people for the NDA and our honorary Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji.”


“We are confident that this statistics will become even more impressive when the final election results are announced. The NDA will all sweep the Panchayat elections in Assam,” he said. An official from the state election commission said the undisputed seats will be released on Saturday. The votes for the Panchayat election will be held on May 11.

Gram Panchayats has a total of 21,920 seats, 2,192 seats in Anchalik Parishads and 397 seats in Zilla Parishads.

Of the 34 districts in the state, Panchayat polls were conducted in 27 districts, as the remaining seven were governed by the autonomous committee.

A total of 1.8 billion people are eligible to vote in the Panchayat poll.
