A large number of Hyder Ali Road, a city-based living in Hyder Ali Road, appeared Friday night, hosting a candlelight vigil to pay tribute to the 40 fully planted trees that the authorities have recently cut down.
Men, women and children arrived at the scene before sunset to show their solidarity with Parisara Ulivigagi Kriya Samithi or Save Environmental Action Committee activists who called for a silent candlelight vigil for “green covers for green covers.”
Several citizens wore black bands and held high placards, while many chose to perform rituals on the stump of the axe to “mother their deaths.” Many participants took selfies and videos of the candlelight protests and shared them on social media platforms.
The convener of Save Environmental Action Commission Parashurame Gowda spoke in a circle near the Office of the Chief of Police, who swore to protect the environment. Participants guaranteed the preservation of trees for humanity.
MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and MLA’s Krishnaraja TS Srivatsa also appeared in protest sites to condemn the tree’s cut down.
While writer and dramatist Preethi Nagaraj questioned the absence of Tanveer Sait, the MLA represents the region, during the protests, Kamal Gopinath, a member of the Save Environmental Action Committee, is also the president of the Mysuru Chapter (PUCL) of the Mysuru Civil Liberties Union (PUCL), who took the protests seriously by Yaduveer and Mr Srivatsa.
He said Parisara ulivigagi Kriya Samithi had deliberately decided not to invite any elected representatives because they held them responsible for the “Holocaust”.
“I am excited by the huge reaction of the Mysoreans to the appeal to pay tribute to the trees cut down on Hyder Ali Road. Citizens show great dignity and discipline. However, this is brief for the voice supporters of Mr. Srivatsa and Mr. Yaduveer.
“We condemn the cheap and cheap efforts to secure political mileage with the MLA and members of Congress,” he said in a statement Friday.
