To provide safe, sanitary access to those who do not have a single household toilet in rural areas, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) will provide high-tech community toilets for women in 60 villages in Bidar area. Such a Hi-Tech toilet was built in Chatnalli Village, Bidar Taluk.
Each community toilet unit includes 11 restrooms – 10 Indian style and 1 Western style toilet – the latter designated for disabled persons. The Karnataka government has allocated Rs 2.5 lakh to build toilets in each high-tech community.
The region has approved 60 such high-tech women’s community toilets – in 16 units of Bhalki Taluk, in Basavakalyan, in Bidar Taluk, 7 in Kamalanagar, 6 in Humnabad, 4 in Chitguppa, in Aurad and Hulsur Taluks, in Hulsur Taluks, in Hulsur Taluks, in Hulsur Taluks, in Hulsur Taluks, in Hulsur Taluks, in Hulsur Taluks, in Hulsur Taluks, in Hulsur Taluks, in Hulsur Taluks.
This modernly designed female community toilet has a waste conversion system for fertilizer production. It is equipped with water and electricity facilities. An inverter system has been installed to ensure safe and convenient use of the toilet even at night.
The high-tech toilet unit has two wash basins. Two laundry platforms have been built outside the toilet for laundry.
The toilet covers 600 square feet and is relatively safer and easy to access for women. Abhishek Pola, the chief engineer at Kridl, said the department will be handed over to Panchayat in Gran soon and will be open for public use.
Community public toilets in rural areas can directly help reduce the risk of snake bite death and drowning. Taluk Panchayat executive Kiran Patil, citing recent deaths in the village of Mannalli, said the risk of encountering snakes or drowning can be reduced by promoting better sanitation and preventing open defecation. In addition, this sanitation facility can improve sanitation and health. “Due to the lack of water facilities, community toilets in rural areas are often not available effectively, but high-tech community toilets will provide adequate water supply through the connection below Jal Jeevan Mission,” Mr Patil added.
In addition to building high-tech community toilets, Zilla Panchayat has organized awareness of the importance of using community toilets among villagers through information, education and communication (IEC) activities, said Satyajeet Nidodakar, IEC coordinator.
People in rural areas are interested in building a single toilet facility under the Swachh Bharat mission. He said that as of now, Zilla Panchayat has received 9,412 applications for individual toilets, of which 6,778 have been approved.
