Nandyal GGH reels are severely short

Kurnur: The Government General Hospital in Nandyal (GGH) has approximately 1,500 outpatients and 250 inpatients per day, and is in a state of severe infrastructure and staff shortages. Even basic facilities such as drinking water supply and sanitation rooms are not available.
One major problem is that the hospital’s CT scanner is not working properly. This forced emergency patients to be referred to Kurnool GGH, 80 km away. Every day, about 35 to 40 patients come to Nandyal GGH and require CT scans, while another 70 require X-rays.
With the CT scan service shut down for several days, patients (especially from low-income backgrounds) face serious financial pressure when seeking services from private centers.
The hospital also records about 150-200 emergencies every day, a large number of road accident victims who need immediate diagnosis. The lack of diagnostic tools is hindering timely treatment. Absent was the lack of fully functional intensive care units.
Minister of Law and Minority Welfare N. MD Farooq recently visited the facility and directed hospital officials to submit demand recommendations immediately. The Minister directed the municipality to provide appropriate drinking water under the outpatient and residency program under the Amrut program.
The hospital continues to suffer from poor sanitation, insufficient maintenance of restrooms, lack of equipment and technicians. “Proposals are underway to utilize hospital development funds and CSR contributions to procure key medical equipment such as an RO plant, diagnosis machines, ultrasound, endoscopy, digital X-ray units, refrigerators for blood bank, a 24-hour diagnostic lab, disilled water supply for the biochemistry laboratories, and installation of CCTV surveyillance systems,” said a senior official.
