CM Stalin may propose resolutions to seek more state power

Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin may move state autonomy resolution in Tuesday’s legislative parliament. The resolution aims to urge the central government to ensure that the state has more power.

The resolution follows several other resolutions that criticize central government policies. The Tamil Nadu Parliament had previously adopted a resolution against the recently passed WAQF (Amendment) bill, urging the central government to repeal the law.

On April 4, CM Stalin informed the Legislative Assembly that the president rejected the resolution to seek exemption from the National Qualification and Entrance Examination (NEET). The Chief Minister criticized the decision to deny that the resolution was “a dark chapter in the federal system.”

The TN Parliament also passed a resolution urging the search for Katchatheevu Island, which is currently managed by Sri Lanka.

The resolution ensures more state power and is also following the major formulation of ten bills passed by the Tamil Nadu Parliament, which became a law without the consent of the governor after the Supreme Court ordered.

On April 8, the Supreme Court, known as Governor RN Ravi, booked ten bills after re-enacted in the state legislature’s “illegal and wrong laws.”

Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan said the governor must provide assistance and advice to the state legislature.

The Supreme Court said that when the state legislature reconsidered, the Governor must agree to the bill, and he can only refuse to agree if the bill is different.

“The action of the Governor to retain 10 bills for the President was illegal and arbitrary, and the lawsuit was revoked. All lawsuits taken by the Governor against 10 bills were put on hold. These 10 bills should be considered clear from the date of re-listing as governor.”

The oldest of the bills passed since 2020 has been waiting.

CM Stalin shared the “good news” of the SC’s verdict in the state assembly, calling it “a victory for all states in India.”

The Chief Minister said on April 8: “I would like to inform the house. Our Tamil Nadu government has made a historical judgment. The Governor has also returned to various bills passed in this Parliament without any consent.”

Stalin added: “The Tamil Nadu government has filed a case against this case in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court said that the Governor’s Detention Act is illegal. The Supreme Court has made a historical judgment. This is a huge victory not only for Tamil Nadu, not only for all states in India, but also for all state governments.
