Former Hindus editor-in-chief N. Ram said on Tuesday that Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi will be one of the worst governors in independent India’s history.

He spoke at an event organized by the Forum on Intellectuals in Tamil Nadu, involving the recent Supreme Court decision in the case, which involved the governor’s inaction on 10 bills passed by the Tamil Nadu Parliament. “Today, a full attack on the concept of federalism was carried out. The Governor was the tool. If we put a list of the worst governors in independent India’s history, RN Ravi would be in the top three. Not only the BJP, but Congress also performed poorly in the governor’s issue (in the past).

Mr Ram said the Supreme Court had been criticized by constitutional lawyers as an “executive court.”

“I also participated in the criticism… In the Kashmir issue, the Citizenship Amendment… there is no justice.… These are all issues of fairness. However, the Supreme Court did not explicitly propose the enforcement court (according to the recent judgment on the governor’s inaction).

DMK Rajya Sabha member P. Wilson said the verdict had been around the clock on the governor’s strategy to delay consent to the bill passed by India’s democratically elected state government.

For the first time in India, it took effect without the consent of the governor or the president. Ten bills have become law and we have won the case. The Supreme Court noted that no constitutional mandate exceeded the law. I hope that if the governor’s time limit is reviewed, the Supreme Court will not refuse.

Mr Wilson said the judgment had set the limit on the governor’s action for the bill to be 30 days and said that if no action was taken within 30 days, the court could be litigated.

“If the bill is sent to the president and withheld, a case can be filed in the court. If the bill is re-engineered, the governor should make a decision within 30 days. According to the ruling, the governor cannot delay the delay. They have no other work. There is no other work outside of signing the bill.

DMK Rajya Sabha member NR Elango said Chief Minister MK Stalin was in sync with all developments in the case. “As far as I know, Chief Minister Stalin has not filed a lawsuit against the Union Government or Governor RN Ravi. He filed a lawsuit because he wanted to protect state rights and the interests of Tamil Nadu.”

Dravidar Kazhagam President K. Veeramani said the Supreme Court did not criticize any other governor as he did for criticizing Mr Ravi.
