Mamaearth vs Hul
According to earlier reports, FMCG company Honasa consumers moved to Delhi High Court for allegedly “deprecating and misleading” advertisements to customers on sunscreen products.
The mom’s parents’ company claims that the recent Hul-owned Lakme sunscreen advertising campaign called “SPF Lie detector Test” unfairly undermines competing products, including a sunscreen from Derma Co. pti.
In response, FMCG giant Hul also filed another lawsuit against skincare startups in the Mumbai High Court.
The entire controversy began with LinkedIn, when Honasa consumer promoter Ghazal Aladh claimed the FMCG industry had long been “lack of good competition”, thus making large traditional brands complacent, as stated in the report.
She reportedly mentioned HUL’s Cent Ad campaign with her beauty brand Lakme’s sunscreen, and Hul questioned rival sunscreen brands.
Hul said in the ad that some “online bestseller sunscreen” claimed that SPF 50 sunscreen offers much less protection, closer to SPF 20 points.
Although the company does not have a named brand, images and videos compare several yellow bottles to Lakme’s packaging and cited real-time SPF tests over the past decade, according to agency reports.
“Some brands currently on the list of bestsellers online claim to have been tested in vivo; however, their in-market sunscreen product samples can provide SPF 50 requirements for SPF 20,” Lakme said in the Social Media Mail.
