Police NAB 14 in IPL betting racket

Reibull: A Chhattisgarh police arrested 14 people from multiple states for allegedly accepting bets for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) match.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is already investigating Chhattisgarh’s Mahadev app scam.

Raipur Range General Amresh Mishra said on Wednesday that out of 14 people in Chhattisgarh, there were six hail from Jharkhand, two from Madhya Pradesh, Northern North (Uttar Pradesh) and Raipur Pradesh and Bihar.

Eight of them were caught by Karkata and six were caught from Guwahati, he said.

The official said they were arrested on the statement of a Nikhil Wadhwani who was arrested on April 13 for accepting online bets for the IPL match.

He said the police caught 67 cell phones, eight laptops, four routers, 94 ATM cards, 15 SIM cards, 32 bank communication books, three bank checkbooks, a security camera and betting transaction records of Rs 3 million.

He said the defendants were accepting bets through a team on the Mahadev Betting app called L95 Lotus, Lotus 651 and Lotus 656.

The official said after the arrest, the defendant told police that they purchased the panel for Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh.

“The defendants conducted a rupees transaction through 500 bank accounts and we will soon freeze those accounts with the relevant banks,” he said.

In the 17 betting cases concerning the ongoing IPL season, 41 persons have been nabbed for operating through apps, IDs, panels and links named ‘Gajanand app, Mr bean, Winpro-in, Diamond999-com, Wood777, Classic99-com, Funapp, Vazircom, Unclebet9com, Kingdombook9com, Shubhlabh app, Gold363 app via Mahadeo panels,’ the official said.

In addition, he wrote to the bank to freeze over 1,500 accounts through which the defendants made bets.
