India works closely with Belgium to involve extradition of Mehul Choksi: MEA | India News

Mehul Choksi extradition: Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday that India is working closely with Belgium to extradite Mehul Choksi, a fugitive evasion madman.
Jaiswal informed that the fugitive Choksi was arrested in Belgium under India’s extradition request.
“He was arrested based on our extradition request. We are working closely with the Belgian side so that he can face trial in the country,” he said.

Mehul Choksi arrested in Belgium
Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had informed that Choksi was arrested in Belgium after the Indian government’s extradition request. He was arrested in Antwerp, Belgium.
Indian investigative agency wanted Choksi for the rupee. 1.350 billion bank loan fraud case. He allegedly left India in early 2018, and then the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam exposed India.

According to the Belgian Federal Public Justice Public Service ANI, “Mehul Choksi was arrested on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
The Belgian Federal Public Justice Public Service added: “Access with his legal counsel has been secured. The Belgian Federal Public Justice Public Service can confirm that the Indian authorities have filed a request for extradition by Joksi.”
