The BBMP garbage truck driver was beaten by an angry mob and was taken to hospital after a road accident on March 29 on Thanisandra Main Road, succumbing to his injuries on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Kondaiah, a native of Andhra Pradesh, working for Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
According to police, the truck crashed into a scooter and hit a nine-year-old boy and killed him on the spot. The scooter rider and the boy’s father escaped with minor injuries. Angry passers-by, about 15 people, dragged the truck driver out, beat him, and shot the truck. Kondaiah was seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to injury in a clot in his brain on Tuesday.
Despite the reckless and negligent death case of the driver by Hennol Traffic Police, the Sanpigharry police registered the murder and arrested four people suspected of being involved. The police are still looking for other defendants who have fled.
Previously, Sampigehalli police had protested against a group of people and blocked traffic after the 9-year-old boy died.
