Delhi man cheated on Rs 21.5 lakh of cyber fraud among two men who cheated Hyderabad residents

On Saturday, the cybercrime force of the Hyderabad police station arrested two residents who occupied Rs 21.5 lakh among Hyderabad residents in a separate cyber fraud case.

In the first case, police arrested 30-year-old Chandanagar resident Malleshappagari Prabhakar for his role in an online gambling scam that deceived a Hyderabad man of Rs 20.08 lakh.

The defendant created the merchant ID and opened more than 80 current accounts using 11 Shell companies, which were then used to facilitate fraudulent transactions on 24Betting.com.

A 30-year-old victim attracted the promotion of the app through Instagram ads and promised high returns on gaming and investment. After initially gaining favorable returns and being allowed to withdraw limited funds, victims cannot access their accounts once a larger investment is made.

Police caught five cell phones, two checkbooks, three debit and credit cards, forged documents, Shell’s rubber stamps, and the scam-related PAN card.

In the second incident, Manish, 30, a resident of Punjabi Bagh in Delhi, was arrested for participating in a job scam that deceived a 27-year-old woman in Hyderabad for Rs 1.5 lakh.

The victim applied for a job through the online portal and contacted by a recruiter from a fictitious agency. The fraudster claimed that six companies were hiring and asked her to choose the one she wanted to join. The victim then requests a “fee” for registration, background verification, health insurance and security permits.

The fraudster assured her that the work was guaranteed and that the full cost was refunded after employment. After paying a total of Rs 1,49,000, her further communication with her was cut off and she received no work. Police investigations show that Manish is the operation of account holders and suppliers, providing transactions for fraudsters. He is also linked to similar cases in Karnataka.

In both cases, further investigations are underway.
