Little boy’s cricket stadium dream could lead to Hyderabad’s restoration of 78 acres of government land

According to TOI, a young boy’s heartfelt request to play cricket space triggered one of Hyderabad’s biggest anti-rescue drivers, resulting in the demolition of illegal buildings and occupying nearly 78 acres of major government land in two areas of the city.

The child wrote to the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA), marking an open plot in Raidurg (once the local children’s playground) was fenced and turned into a real estate risk. He also claimed that nearby lakes were illegally filled to make way for roads and housing land.

Following the complaint, Hydraa officials conducted on-site inspections in the Dargah area of Raidurg, Shaikpet Mandal, and found a large-scale illegal occupation in the 5/2 investigation.
“Inspections show that 39 acres of government land have been occupied. The sign warns that the land is controversial, but Narne Estates has erected its own signage, advertising plots for sale. Roads are being paved, sales plots, and even lakes are being filled,” Hydraa Commissioner Av Ranganath told Ranganath TOI.

Hydraa quickly demolished the unauthorized structure, cleared the encroachment, installed government property markers, and filed police programs against Narne Estates to seize land, unauthorized development and encroachment of water.

Regenerate 39 acres in hafeezpet

According to the TOI report, in another operation on the same day, Hydraa broke under a second massive encroachment by Hafeezpet. The team targeted 39.2 acres of banned government land on the serial ruling city’s No. 79 investigation, half of which have been developed into residential and commercial space. According to Ranganath, construction company Vasantha Homes manipulated investigation records to create a fake sub-investigation number. This allows them to illegally develop about 19 acres of housing and convert the rest into office space and sheds and rent them out to private entities. To make the case worse, the land is being litigated in the Supreme Court, which specifically prohibits any development until the final judgment is passed.

“The company is still under construction despite the court’s orders. At a recent hearing, the court expressed shock and demanded to know how this blatant violation occurred.”

After that, Hydraa cleared the illegal structure and boundary walls in Hafeezpet and erected a sign that marked the land as government property.

More such actions are planned in the coming weeks as part of a wider crackdown on illegal land occupation in Hyderabad, officials said.
