Heat Wave Day Loss Insurance for Vulnerable Workers

Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Ministry has said that this year’s summer may not only be hot, but also severe in several parts of the country, discussing not only in the protection of health emergencies related to heat stress, but also explore ways to protect income from daily wage income, which often constitute the people most affected by extreme heat conditions.
In a recent meeting of the Global Climate Advisor organized by the National Defense Commission of Natural Resources New Delhi, the proposal aims to examine possible heatwave wage loss insurance for daily wage workers, mostly contractually or daily employed, who will lose income during heatwave days.
The idea is that when the IMD declares a heat wave, these workers should be given a day off, but their daily wages should be protected with thermal insurance or adverse weather cover. “This issue needs to be discussed and accepted,” Arvind Kumar, special secretary of disaster management experts, said in the April 12 Heat and Cooling of Heat and Cooling.
