US Vice President JD Vance arrives at PM Modi’s official residence and will begin bilateral negotiations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed U.S. Vice President JD Vance, his wife Usha Vance and his three children in his official residence in the national capital on Monday. The Vance family has arrived at Prime Minister 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in the national capital, and the U.S. vice president will begin bilateral talks with PM Modi.
Earlier in the day, the Vance family visited Swaminarayan Akshadham Temple in New Delhi, and the couple’s three children were dressed in traditional Indian costumes. Boys – Wayne and Vivek – wore Kurta-Pyjamas, while girl Mirabel wore Anarkali-style outfits with an embroidered jacket.
After visiting the temple, he shared an article on X, thanking for the warm hospitality. “Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and kindness and welcome to this beautiful place with my family. The honor of India is that you build a beautiful temple with precision and care. Our children, especially love it. God bless,” Vance wrote.
Vance and his family also visited the Central Cottage Industries Emporium in Janpath. Upon arrived at Palam Air Force Station in Delhi this morning, and Vance was welcomed by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and received a ceremonial reception. During his four-day visit, Vance is scheduled to travel to Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. He will visit Jaipur on Tuesday and Agra on Wednesday.
The visit is seen as an important step in promoting the integrated strategic partnership between India and the United States. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA), said the visit will cover all key areas of cooperation between the two countries. He added that the bilateral ties are expected to be further strengthened.
In a weekly media brief last Thursday, when asked about the possibility of tariff discussions, Jaiswal said: “When you have this partnership with any country, we have a comprehensive strategic global partnership… Obviously, you will discuss all the relevant issues…”
He added: “Of course, our relationship makes us do anything that is part of the effort from bilateral interaction… So, all of these bilateral issues will be discussed and we are very sure that this visit will further promote our bilateral bonds.”
Jaiswal also highlighted the ongoing discussions between India and the United States on potential trade agreements. “We are talking to the United States so that bilateral trade agreements can be reached,” he said.
Vance and his family arrived in India after a three-day Italian visit, where he held a bilateral meeting and participated in religious services over the Easter weekend. The U.S. vice president arrived in Italy on Friday and held an extended bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
On Saturday, he met with church officials, including Vatican Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
