2024 – More than 9,400 HIV-positive tests in Telangana in 25 years

Hyderabad: According to the Telangana National Society for AIDS Control (TSACS), more than 9,400 of the 1.902 million people tested were positive for HIV during the 2024-25 period. The state has about 124,000 HIV-related people, all of whom receive free treatment through antiretroviral therapy (ART) centers.
The details revealed the details at a review meeting held by Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha on Monday at the TSMSIDC office in Koti. Officials told the minister that there were more than 5,000 HIV patients in 13 districts, and another 13 patients ranged between 2,000 and 5,000 patients.
The Minister directed the health department to increase the number of HIV tests in these 26 regions and focus on high-risk groups through an advocacy campaign.
The Minister stressed that the goal is to fully control HIV/AIDS by 2030, which is consistent with national and global goals. He asked TSAC to work accordingly and regularly monitor the performance of NGOs related to the organization.
The Minister also called on people to treat HIV/AIDS patients with compassion rather than discrimination against them. He reminded patients to follow their doctor’s advice and take medication regularly without failing.
TSACS Director Haimavathi, Health and Family Welfare Specialist RV Karnan, Medical Education Director Narendra Kumar and other senior officials attended the meeting.
