Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation is stepping up efforts to address the current major water shortages in the summer. The city needs about 47 MLD (million liters per day), but only receives 26.5 MLD (million liters per day).

“If there is no rainfall in the coming weeks, the company is ready to pump water from Andra Reservoir,” Vizianagaram Municipal Commissioner Palli Nallanayya said on Monday.

The main source of Thadipudi Reservoir provides drinking water to Vizianagaram City. Mr Nallanayya said: “The city’s water supply needs cannot be met due to insufficient inflows. As a result, the civic authorities have recently drew water from Andra’s reservoirs, and in an emergency, we will do it again.”

Meanwhile, authorities have begun repairing water pipes in several areas to prevent waste due to leakage.

CPIM Assistant Secretary Bugatha Ashok urged the government to take the necessary steps to ensure daily water supply. “In many areas, water is provided on alternative dates, despite the construction of new tanks, the suburbs are not in sufficient supply.”
