Sonnet Jose achieved a long-standing dream by finishing 54th place in the 2024 Civil Service Examination. She believes that the clearing of the famous exam in the second attempt was an outstanding achievement from a man in the small village of Pulikkunnu near Mundakkayam on the border of Kottayam-Idukki.

“I come from an agricultural family. My father, Jose Eetikkakunnel, is a farmer and a mother is a housewife. I have been ambitious to become a collector in the state since I went to school. That dream has come true. My achievements have come true. My achievements show that individuals from low-income families can be ambitious.

She completed her education at St. Antony High School in Mundakkayam and completed her higher education at a school in Erumeli. She received an IAS coach at the Fortune IAS Academy in Thiruvananthapuram. In her first attempt last year, she entered the interview stage.

“At school, I actively participate in sports, arts and environment activities and represent the school in state-level voting,” she said.

She is on the border between Kotayam and Idukki districts, and she is the second person in the area to clear civil servants’ inspection. The first is the current Thrissur collector Arjun Pandiyan, who comes from the plantation area of Peerumade, Idukki.

Sunil Sebastian, a teacher at St. Anthony High School, recalls Ms. Jose’s leadership skills in the school year. “She led the school’s Student Police Cadets (SPC) department, and SPC Community Police (SPO) Jissjo Joseph provided her with leadership training. This helped her succeed in the exam.”

Ms. Jose has two siblings, Sony and Sonia.
