Shubham, who runs a cement company, went to Kashmir with his wife and nine other family members on April 16.
The group, including Shubum’s parents, sister, brother-in-law and her sister, visited Sonamarg and Gulmarg before arriving in Pahalgam, sources said.
According to Uncle Shubum, Manoj Dwivedi, who lives in Kanpur, the newlyweds decided to ride a horse at noon Tuesday, while the rest of the family hang out near their hotel.
However, two or three terrorists reportedly approached them, trying to know who they are before shooting Shubum and kill him in front of his wife, who received tragic news over the phone from Shubum’s father, Sanjay Dwivedi.
According to Shubham’s cousin Saurabh Dwivedi, the terrorists first asked Shubham to recite “Kalma” (Declaration of Islamic Faith). Saurabh told Mediapersons that when he failed to do so, they shot him to death.
After killing Shubum, one of the terrorists reportedly turned to his wife and said, “Tell the government what we did to our husbands,” Sorab said.
The sad family plans to fly back to Delhi on Wednesday after completing their trip. Their relatives from Kanpur left the Delhi reception family and brought Shubham’s body back to his hometown.
DCP (East) Shrawan Kumar Singh said the necessary instructions have been given to the police to help grieving families during this difficult time.
