Multi-departmental committee established for AIDS control in Andhra

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Government constitutes 18 parliaments led by Chief Secretary K Vijayanand to strengthen the institutional mechanisms for AIDS control.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu approved the proposal of the Ministry of Health to set up a council, which will focus on policy coordination, monitoring and effective implementation of the AIDS control plan, according to an official press release on Wednesday. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said: “The Council will strengthen community participation and ensure enrollment for HIV (PLHIV), the majority of high-risk populations (MARPS) and children affected by AIDS (CABA) in social protection programmes.”

The Council includes secretaries from key sectors such as Health, Education, Women and Child Development, Panchayati Raj and Youth Affairs to promote cross-sectoral collaboration.

According to the release, representatives of PLHIV, MARPS, civil society, non-governmental organizations and the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSAC) will also be part of the Council to ensure inclusiveness and grassroots representation in the decision-making process.

The Council will meet regularly to review progress throughout Andhra Pradesh, mobilize resources and implement prevention and treatment programmes for comprehensive HIV/AIDS control.
