TN government names bill CM Stalin as principal of the proposed Kalaignar University

The Tamil Nadu government plans to name Chief Minister MK Stalin as the president of the proposed Karaniere University, which will be established in Kumbakonam. Minister of Higher Education Govi. Chezhiaan introduced a bill at the conference Tuesday (28 April 2025).

Under the bill, the chief minister will be the president of the university and the secretary of higher education. The Prime Minister will appoint the Vice-Chancellor from the three names recommended by the Committee.

According to the bill, Bharathidasan University covers the Ariyalur, Karur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruchi and Tiruvarur regions, and found that it was “it was difficult to meet the needs of students, especially in coastal areas”. The bill says the proposed Karanaire University will be established through the fork Bharathidasan University and will provide world-class facilities designed to enhance marginalized communities in the Ariyalur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and Tiruvarur regions.
