Viral video of Gujarati actor eating Khaman on Surat Airport floor triggers heated discussions about ‘civic consciousness’

Thakkar explained in the video that he and his friends were flying from Surat to Pataya, Thailand. His friends took Khaman to the airport, so they decided to sit on the floor and eat and board the plane.
“We won’t look at this place when it comes to eating,” Thakkar said in the video. “This is Surat Airport and my friends got the delicious kham. We sat on the floor and boarded the flight to Pattaya.”
The video was first shared by a user on X (formerly known as Twitter), who praised Thakkar for sticking to his “traditional diet and diet style.” However, not everyone agrees.
Many social media users criticized the behavior, calling it a “citizen mistake.” Some point out that while it is important to respect one’s culture and traditions, public spaces like airports require a certain level of civic responsibility.
One user commented: “The lack of upright citizenship behavior is one of the reasons India is still considered a third world country. You want to use modern transport, but the behavior does not apply.”
Another wrote: “Not Indian culture, please stop promoting. There is nothing to be proud of.”
Some also say eating in public places like airports can cause inconvenience to others and set a bad example.
While many support Thakkar to evaluate his own food and traditions, others stress the need to maintain proper behavior in public places, especially airports with stricter rules.
One X user concluded: “You can eat anything at home, but in public, you have to have some civic awareness.”
