With a global total revenue of Rs 6.8 crore, Thudarum is now the second largest opening of the Malayalam cinema, behind Mohanlal-starrer and Prithviraj Sukumaran-guided L2: Empuraan: Empuraan, which opened on the four-day opening weekend in March 2025, collecting a box office of Rs 174 crore.

The title hosted by Mohanlal and Tharun Moorthy, the theatrical thriller Thudarum was released in cinemas on April 25 and received positive reviews from viewers and critics. Also starring Shobana, Prakash Varma, Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Thomas Mathew, Thomas Mathew and Krishna Prabha, in Pretect, the film has been moving several box offices at the box office and has opened nearly all records on the weekend.
In the first three days, Thudarum made a box office of Rs 2.8 crore in India, of which Rs 20 crore was collected in Kerala. The film received Rs 4,000 crore from its overseas collection, increasing the global box office favorites to Rs 6.8 crore. This means that Mohanlal’s starring took the second largest opening weekend at Malayalam Cinema, surpassing Prithviraj sukumaran-starrer aadujeevitham to earn Rs 64.85 crore thriller L2 in 2024: Empuraan last month. The sequel to Empuraan is the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer (Empuraan) which received a box office of Rs 17.4 crore on the four-day opening weekend and became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time in March 2025, with Rs 265 crore worldwide.
With an overwhelming response to thudarum, the film will be over Rs 1,000 crore at the global box office and will be the second film to achieve this feat this year in Empuraan. Mohanlal-Starrer will be one of the highest-grossing movies in Mollywood, the Malayalam film industry.
Prior to Thudarum, Tharun Moorthy made his debut in the 2021 crime thriller Java Operation, with his second film, Crime Drama 2022, Saudi Arabia won the National Film Award for Best Malayalam. The 2025 thriller was produced by M. Renjith under his banner Rejaputra Visual Media.
