20 days after coming to Kota, Neet’s aspiring attempt to commit suicide

Kota: A 16-year-old medical aspirant hangs himself in his hotel room in Kota just 20 days after joining the coaching center here to prepare for NEET. Police said Tuesday.

This is the 13th case of suicide among coaching students at the country’s coaching centers since January, with the third only being in April.

Police said Tameem Iqbal, a native of Katihar, in Bihar, was found hanging on the ceiling fan of his dormitory room in Talwandi district on Monday night.

Jawahar Nagar Circle inspector Ramlaxman said that the failure to recover suicide tickets from the room was the cause of the boy’s extreme step.

He added that despite repeated knocks, the hotel’s guardian told police after the boy did not open the door on Monday night.

He said the police team opened the door and found the little boy hanging from the ceiling fan.

The initial inquiry showed that Iqbal was a Level 11 student and came to Kota just 20 days ago. He also attended a coaching academy to prepare for NEET, the official added.

He said the boy’s uncle lives in Delhi, who arrived in Dakota on Tuesday morning after learning of the tragic incident and handed over to him after an autopsy, adding that further investigations are underway.

In 2024, 17 coaching students died in Kota. In 2023, this number is 26 years old.
