Update locations calling for nomination of Hyderabad heritage

Conservation architect Abha Narain Lambah has urged the Telangana government to resume proposals for the nomination of the iconic heritage sites of Hyderabad, Qutb Shahi Tombs, Golconda Fort and Charminar, and nominate for UNESCO World Heritage status.

Ms. Ramba recalled celebrating the Art Deco architecture celebration at the Centennial Celebration in Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad on Tuesday that nominations were submitted in 2010, but no progress was made.

She said from the inscription of the Victorian Gothic Gothic Gothic and Art Deco Group in Mumbai in 2018: “This is the right time to re-propose the proposal.

She explained: “Mumbai became a global trade hub and carried out ambitious urban planning efforts that led to these architectural ensembles. Art Deco architecture, which integrates Indian aesthetics with international influence, is a unique cultural expression that happens to be called India-Deko.

The event also focused on the city’s own art deco heritage. Srinivas Murthy, the event’s curator, revealed that among many of the city’s Art Deco structures, 148 famous buildings have been identified, of which 52 of them have been completed.

“We plan to record the rest of the records as soon as possible and will release a book on Hyderabad Art Deco architecture in September,” he said, noting that Raj Bhavan’s main house itself is an example of Art Deco design.

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, who attended the event, emphasized the importance of protecting architectural heritage. “Decorative art embodies the emotional language of architecture. As the country moves forward, conservation must become a collective effort, i.e., the movement of the people.” He also called on more events to raise public awareness of the rich architectural history of the region.
