Juhu is a vibrant suburb of Mumbai, most notably the home of Bollywood superstars such as Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Hrithik Roshan, Shatrughan Sinha. However, among the reputation of these actors, Juhu is also known for becoming the birthplace of ice cream shops, which swept India. Raghunanandan Srinivas Kamath established the first Naturals ice cream shop in Juhu in 1984. When Bollywood stars attracted a large crowd, Raghunanandan Srinivas Kamath won their hearts with his unusual fruit ice cream.
Over the years, Raghunanandan Srinivas Kamath has become an idol of Indian dessert culture, unconsciously having special connections with Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Shatrughan Sinha. Naturals Ice Cream founder Raghunanandan Srinivas Kamath once told a newspaper how he strategically chose Juhu as his first outlet after realizing the power of the region’s star.
“Celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha and Hema Malini live in the area. I think they will attract more people,” Raghunanandan Srinivas Kamath told the Telegraph in 2015.

It was here that he thought of making an ice cream that celebrates Indian fruits instead of artificial spices.
Raghunanandan Srinivas Kamath quickly parted ways with his brother. He invested only Rs 3.5 lakh and launched Naturals ice cream with six people as employees and a 200 square foot shop. Raghunanandan Srinivas Kamath has only 12 flavors including Sitaphal, tender coconut, jackfruit, Muskmelon and Kala Jamun, and started the ice cream shop. Ice cream is made with only fruit, milk and sugar, winning people’s hearts with its natural taste and quickly became USP.
Raghunanandan Srinivas Kamath relies heavily on word of mouth and pours all his belief in product quality. Naturals’ menu has grown from 12 flavors to 20 flavors and is now a crowd favorite in almost every Indian family.
Naturals Ice Cream is now worth over Rs 4 billion, with 165 stores spread across 15 Indian states. For over 40 years, Raghunanandan Srinivas Kamath has kept his unique features of ice cream – without adding colors or chemicals – intact.
Raghunanandan Srinivas Kamath died in 2024 at the age of 75, leaving behind a legacy of trust.
