ISRO National Remote Sensing Centre Vemuri Chowdary said Tuesday that Agriculture 4.0 requires the integration of all technologies into the food chain.
He said that as climate change affects agriculture, a farmer-centric approach, rather than a policy-level approach, needs to be adopted to address the Agri Vision 2025 conference organized by the Federation of Industry of India (CII) Telangana.
He said monitoring by satellite will help understand the progress of harvest and estimate the output that arrives at the market. CII Telangana said in a press release that precision agriculture is primarily a major crop for high-value commercial crops, which will help reduce costs and increase yields.
EY PARTER and Leader-Social and Skills Department Amit Vastyayan said marginal farmers and female farmers should be able to use technology. Cost, cooperation, competitiveness and commercially viable products may play an important role in driving the future of agriculture.
RS Reddy, chairman of CII Telangana, said digital innovation must go hand in hand with sustainable practices to address challenges such as climate change, scarcity of resources and market volatility. He said 86% of farmers in Telangana are marginal farmers, with an average land holding less than 2.5 acres. Agriculture is the second largest contributor to GSDP, which is second only to the service sector.
The conference brought together a variety of stakeholders and explored strategies to make agriculture more sustainable, technology-oriented and globally competitive, CII-TG said.
