In Bellagarve, Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar celebrated the Basava Jayanti celebration in the goat circle on Wednesday.
She urged young people to read Basavanna and other Sharanas’ Vachanas, as well as scholars’ contributions to their lives and society.
“Barsavana was a 12th-century hymn poet who fought for an equal society on the basis of caste, class and gender. We should remember him by following his ideals.”
The celebration was organized by the regional government, Zilla Panchayat, Kannada and Cultural Department and Belagavi City Corporation.
“We should be on the path that Basavanna shows, and she talks to the “other” of the community and individuals. We should embrace everything as we are,” she said.
“If we follow the path shown by Basavanna, we can live with dignity. Basavanna and his fellow saints are committed to social reform. If we live in a relatively progressive society compared to ancient times, it’s because of salad dance,” she said.
Resource staffer Basavaraja Jagajampi delivered a speech on Basavanna’s life and ideology. Basavanna ignited the light of wisdom of the deprived class. But it is wrong to limit him to one community, Professor Jagajampi said.
He said: “In addition to his core ideas about Kayaka and Dasoha, Basawana is also a groundbreaking Kannada poet. He is a great humanitarian who has reached the pinnacle of intellectuals and worship. He has an open mind and seeks forgiveness for all,” he said.
Mayor Mangesh Pawar, Department Mayor Vani Vilas Joshi, Department Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Shinde, Additional Deputy Commissioner Vijayakumar Honakeri, City Corporation Department Commissioner Udaykumar Talwar, Department Director of Kannada and Culture Vidyavati Bhajantri, community leaders Ratnaprabha Bellada, Basavaraja Rotti, Iranna Dayannavara and others were present.
