21 Manipur MLAS urges Amit Shah PM Modi to resume elected government

About 21 MLAs from Manipur have written separate letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah urging them to restore a popular government in the state to restore peace and normalcy.Manipur has been ruled by the president since former Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned on February 9 on February 13.
Legislators who asked to be anonymous said most of the signatories were from the BJP, the National People’s Party (NPP), the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and two independent legislators. Manipur’s legislative session is now under the suspended animation, with its full strength of 60, and its term is until 2027.
The letter from MLAS said that although people initially welcomed the president’s rule in hopes, no obvious steps have been taken to restore peace. It reads: “The public is very worried among the public.”

Civil society groups have begun mobilizing public protests against the continuation of presidential domination and accusing elected representatives of not forming governments. The MLA warns that the absence of an elected government is exacerbating instability and public anger. The delay in the establishment of the government stems from the BJP’s inability to reach a consensus on CM consensus candidates.
