ECI introduces three key initiatives to improve the accuracy of election rolls, please check the details

To make Voter Information Slide (VIS) more friendly, ECI has also decided to modify its design.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has proposed three new initiatives aimed at improving the accuracy of the election volume. This includes obtaining data on death registration electronically, updating the election volume electronically, issuing standard ID cards to the BLOS, and making voter information more friendly to voters.
“To make Voter Information Slide (VIS) more friendly, the committee has also decided to modify its design. The voter’s serial numbers and number of parts will now be highlighted and the font size will be increased, making it easier for voters to identify their polling stations and allow voter officials to effectively locate their names in the election,” the EC said in a statement.
First Initiative
ECI will now obtain death registration data electronically from the Indian Registrar. Under this release, this step complies with Rule 9 of the 1960 Electoral Rules Registration and Section 3 (5) (b) of the Birth and Death Act 1969 (as amended in 2023).
Data sharing will allow Election Registration Officials (EROs) to promptly obtain information about registered deaths. ECI notes that booth level officials (BLOS) will be able to verify this information during field visits without the need for a formal application under Form 7.
Second Initiative
The second initiative involves issuing standard photo ID cards to all Blos. These officials were appointed by Article 13b(2) of the People’s Law of 1950 under Article 13b(2) of the People’s Law. Photo identification will help citizens recognize BLOS during voter verification and registration exercises, as the committee notes the importance of BLOs clearly identifyable BLOs during House visits.
third initiative
The third measure focused on redesigning the Voter Information Sheet (VIS) to make it easy to use. The release added that voters’ serial numbers and parts counts will now appear in larger font sizes to help voters identify their polling stations and assist voting officials in positioning names on the election list. The committee noted that these steps were part of an effort to simplify the election process and improve interaction between voters and election officials.
