Automakers report mixed sales chart for April

Pune: April marks the first month of the fiscal year, with sales performances varying in the world’s third largest automotive market, behind China and the United States.
Sales from Hyundai and Tata Motors reported a decline, despite sales of Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automaker, rose 7% last month.
On the other hand, Mahindra and Kia sales showed strong growth under their SUV leadership.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor and JSW MG Motor also experienced significant sales growth, with Windsor EV leading the way.
From 1,68,089 units in April 2024, total sales of Suzuki Maruti Suzuki increased by 7% to 1,79,791 units. However, its domestic passenger car sales have increased from only 1,37,952 units to 1,38,704 units.
However, total sales of rival Hyundai fell 5% to 60,774 units, down from 63,701 units last year.
At the same time, Hyundai Motor has also crossed the 9 million cumulative sales milestones in India since 1996.
Tata Motors’ domestic sales fell 6%, with 45,199 units sold, down from 47,883 units sold last year. These figures include contributions from Tata’s EV portfolio.
Mahindra & Mahindra Sportsitary car sales climbed to 52,330 units, up from 41,008 sold last year. “Based on the strong momentum that last year we started a year in April. These numbers show the strength of our portfolio and customer products.”
In April, Kia India’s sales also soared to 18.3% to 23,623 units, up from 19,968 units sold last year. SONET became Kia’s top seller with 8,068 units, followed by Seltos, recording 6,135 units.
Similarly, Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s sales also increased by 33%, with sales reaching 27,324 units in April, up from 20,494 units last year. Among them, domestic sales were 24,833 vehicles and exports accounted for 2,491 vehicles.
Sales of JSW MG electric motors rose 23% in April to 5,829 units, compared with 4,725 units in the previous year. It is worth noting that since its launch, the MG Windsor EV has maintained its leading position in the electric vehicle sector for the seventh consecutive month.
