Udhayanidhi launches work in Phase 3 of Chennai Peripheral Loop Project

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday opened the third phase of the Chennai Peripheral Circuit Project (CPRR) undertaken by the National Highway and Small Ports Department at a cost of Rs 2,689.74 crore.

The press release said CPRR is being implemented to address the rapidly growing traffic problems in Chennai and to improve connectivity for vehicles from southern Tamil Nadu to Ennore to Ennore and Kattupalli ports and to enhance industrial and commercial growth. The CPRR project covering 132.87 km is designed as a six-lane driving lane with access control, with two-lane service roads on both sides integrated with the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).

The third phase spans 30.10 kilometers from the tiruvallur bypass to Sriperumbudur. Under this, four bridges and a railway will be built. As of now, 35% of the work under Phase 1 of the project (extending from the port of Ennore to Sachu), while 65% of the work in Phase 2 covers Sachu, covering the beginning of the Tiruvallu bypass, has been completed. Phase 4 covers 23.80 km from Sriperumbudur to Singaperumal Koil. This section has been constructed with state funds. A detailed project report is being prepared to upgrade this section.

Phase 5 covers 28.24 km, from the singaperumal koil to the Poonjeri junction near Mamallapuram, and land acquisition work is also beginning.

Minister of Public Works, Highways and Secondary Ports Ev Velu and Minister of Welfare of Minorities SM Nasar and others were present.
