Strengthen disputes among Bihar parties demanding credit for caste census

Bihar political leaders scramble to claim that the centre decided to enumerate castes in the upcoming census.
Ruling Janata Dal (Manchester United) leader claimed on Thursday that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted a caste-based survey in Bihar, leading the coalition government to enumerate castes in the census.
The decision was proposed ahead of the state parliamentary elections held in Bihar later this year.
Bihar JD (U) Chief Umesh Kushwaha expressed his happiness for the caste census, saying Mr Kumar laid the foundation for Bihar’s caste census. “It is a proud question for all Biharans, for example, starting with Bihar like the caste census, under the vision of NitishJI Mr. Kushwaha said while speaking to the media in the party office with other leaders.
Senior JD (U) leader and cabinet minister Vijay Choudhary asserted that the opposition pretended to force the caste census and the fact is that its initiative and its entire leadership in Bihar were carried out by Mr. Kumar.
Mr Choudhary pointed out that the role of the opposition was limited to supporting Bihar CM’s support on the caste census issue. “The launch and implementation of this historic decision was done by Nitish [Kumar] government. There is a big difference between giving support and starting initiative. ” explained Mr. Choudhury.
He added that in 2019-20, Mr. Kumar was the first person to raise the requirements of the 2021 10th Census, which should also include caste components.
Mr Choudhary claimed that Bihar CM proposed prioritizing caste census first at the initial meeting of the Indian group, but Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee rejected it.

On the other hand, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav said it is important to see when the census will be conducted, as it has been postponed for four years.
