AIADMK Secretary-General and Opposition Leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami expressed shock at the crime. In social media posts, he criticized Chief Minister MK Stalin for referring to the latter’s recent statement in the state assembly that the law and order in Tamil Nadu are excellent. “What is this great law and order like?” he asked.
Mr Palaniswami pointed out that between 2022 and 2025, five elderly couples were brutally murdered in the Erode and Tiruppur regions, questioning whether such incidents are undeniable to the DMK government. “Are these isolated incidents?” he asked, adding that people now live in fear and cannot sleep peacefully at night.
Condemning the DMK government, he urged the Chief Minister to fulfill his primary responsibility for upholding the law and orders by taking strict actions against those responsible for murder and robbery.
