Supreme Court protects Pakistan-oriented families, requiring authorities to verify documents

The Supreme Court on Friday (May 2, 2025) asked the authorities not to take compulsory actions, such as expelling six members of a family from Pakistan who allegedly passed their visas until they verify their identity documents.

Family members are residents of Kashmir and their son works in Bangalore. 26 people died in the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

Observing the issue involves a human perspective, Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh have given the family freedom to approach Jamu and Kashmir High Court in case they are angry about document verification.

The Supreme Court is hearing pleas from Ahmed Tarek Butt and five of his family members who claimed they were detained and taken to the Waga border and were deported to Pakistan despite valid Indian documents.

The bench noted that the centre revoked the visa of Pakistani nationals in a notice on April 25, in addition to the visa provided by the order itself, and gave a specific deportation timetable.
