Real ID: The Real ID Deadline is around the corner: Here is what we travelers need to know before boarding

How to check if you have ID ready
Travelers can easily check whether their current ID really matches the ID by checking whether there are star marks in the upper right corner of the logo. USA Today reports that the star may appear in different forms depending on the state. In California, for example, the star is placed inside the outline of a bear in California. In some states, it looks like Venus.
For those without a real ID card, they will have to visit their state’s Department of Automobile (DMV) in person. The applicant must prepare the documents to verify their complete legal name, date of birth, social security number, proof of two addresses and legal residence.
Some states reportedly allow pre-orders to be filled online, but the last step must be completed.

What happens if you miss the deadline?
If individuals fail to obtain a real ID before the May 7 deadline, they can still fly domestically. However, travelers must carry an alternative form of identity, such as a valid U.S. passport, military ID card, or a trusted travel card from the Department of Homeland Security. Without one of these alternatives, security will not be allowed through the airport.
It is worth noting that the actual ID requirements apply only to air travel and certain federal facilities. However, one can still drive without a real ID.
Take action immediately to avoid delays
The actual ID processing time is incredible, with some states allegedly waiting time up to 45 days. As demand continues to soar, deadlines are urged to act quickly to avoid a last-minute crisis. The DHS website provides a valid map that links to DMVs in each state to help with the application process.
