Grants bail to fans for invading balls in KKR-RCB match

Kolkata: A young cricket fan was arrested for invading the stadium at the Eden Stadium in the opening match of the 2025 Indian Premier League and was granted conditional bail by Bankshar Court on Monday.

The Chief Justice Magistrate (CJM) granted him a bail prayer directing the young man to provide a bail of Rs 1,000.

Judge Kaustav Mukhopadhyay also directed that the man would not be able to enter the Eden Gardens Stadium or the adjacent area on the IPL match day in Kolkata this season and police will ensure he will not receive tickets for any matches.

City police arrested the young man on Saturday for disrupting the opening IPL match between Kolkata Knight Rider and Royal Challenger Bengaluru and entered Virat Kohli’s footsteps when batting. The security personnel were quickly taken away by him.

He gave birth in court on Monday after a day of police custody.

The court refused to pray to the police for further custody of the young man, allowing the man to pray on bail, and believed that no subject of the crime had been recovered from him and therefore could not be sure of any bad intentions.

Judge Mukhopadhyay observed that the incident should serve as an eye-opener in ensuring foolproof safety so that there will be no such violation in the future.
