French police kidnapped cryptocurrency father for free

Paris: French police have arrested seven people on the weekend raid to free a man kidnapped in Paris to force his crypto millionaire son to pay the ransom, prosecutors said.

The prosecutor's office said in a statement that the man's identity was not disclosed, dating back to an address in the Essenal department south of Paris, where police raided late Saturday.

He was kidnapped on Thursday in the 14th arondissement south of Paris.

A police officer spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity and said four men wearing ski masks tied him in a delivery truck as passers-by watched him.

“The victim appears to be the father of a man who made a fortune in cryptocurrency, and the crime involves the demand for ransom,” the prosecutor's statement said.

Prosecutors showed no sign of the scale of the ransom requirement, but the Le Parisien newspaper reported that the kidnappers had asked for between five million and seven million euros (5.7 million to $7.9 million). Officials said no payment was made.

Sources close to the investigation told AFP that one of his father's fingers was cut off.

Sources said “someone is concerned about other dismemberment” if police did not raid the property.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau praised the “decisive” police action in a message on X to free the man.

Kidnapping, torture, blackmail

A police source said the victim's wife told investigators that her husband and the rich – who owned a cryptocurrency marketing company in Malta – had been threatened in the past.

With the support of the Cybercrime Department of the French Police, investigators from the Opposition Corps are investigating the suspect's conspiracy to commit illegal imprisonment, kidnapping, torture, blackmail, blackmail and armed blackmail.

On January 21, the French crypto boss and his partner conducted a similar kidnapping.

That victim, David Balland, co-founded Ledger, a cryptocurrency company, at the time worth more than $1 billion.

Ballard's finger was cut off by his kidnapper and he demanded a ransom.

He was released the next day and his girlfriend was found tied up in a car boot in the outskirts of Essonne.

In this case, none of the suspects are under criminal investigation, including the alleged Ringleader, a 26-year-old boy with police records of previous kidnappings.

In early January, a 56-year-old man was found in a car boot near the city of Mance, and several media reports said he was the father of a cryptocurrency influencer in Dubai who boasted about his profits online.
