Iran FM Araghchi arrives in Pakistan before heading to India

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Pakistan during a full day on Monday, having a day-long visit before his trip to New Delhi, meeting with the country's leaders amid tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly Pahargam terrorist attacks. The visit comes days after Araghchi proposed to undermine tensions between India and Pakistan, he said Tehran is ready to use its good offices in Islamabad and New Delhi to “build a greater understanding during this difficult time”. Pakistan Radio reported that during the visit, Araqchi will hold important meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global development.
Pakistan and Iran enjoy close bilateral relations.

Araghchi's visit is expected to further strengthen existing ties and strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told Iran's state-run TV station that Foreign Minister Araghchi plans to visit Pakistan and India as part of ongoing consultations Tehran has with regional countries. He added that their negotiations will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing the latest developments at the regional and international levels. Bahá'i also confirmed that top Iranian diplomats will make an official visit to India later this week.

The visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister follows tensions between Pakistan and India, following the Pahargam terrorist attacks.

Since the 2019 Pulwama strike, terrorists have killed 26 people in Chamu and Pahargam in Kashmir on April 22.

Araghchi condemned the Pahalgam attack “strongly, explicitly”.
