Five journalists received honors at the 2025 Denmark Siddiki News Awards

New Delhi: Five journalists won the 2025 Danish News Award for their influential coverage in printing, digital, radio and photography. The award ceremony was held on Sunday at the International Centre of India (IIC), respecting the legacy of the late Pulitzer Prize-winning photography-winning Danish Siddiqui and celebrating journalism rooted in integrity, courage and serving the public.

The winners list includes Meghna Bali of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) to investigate visa fraud affecting Australian Indian students, and BBC News India’s Sarvapriya Sangwan’s Indian series “Last Man the Last Man”, The Last Man in India’s Most Marginalized Community.

New York Times photojournalist Saumya Khandelwal is recognized for his visual story about the exploitation of women by the sugar industry in Maharashtra.

Among the winners are independent journalist Greeshma Kuthar, who won the award for her investigation report on the Vigilante group in Manipur and published in a caravan, as well as Scroll.in’s Vaishnavi Rathore, to provide detailed coverage of her environmental and social impacts on the development of the Greater Nicobar.

The winners were selected by a Gabrielle Fonseca, a senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, front-line editor Vaishna Roy, journalism academic Kishalay Bhattacharjee and Reuters Pictures.

The event’s chief guest, former election commissioner Sy Quraishi, emphasized the importance of independent journalism in democratic countries and praised the winners for bringing marginalized voices to the forefront.
